Ana Rute Costa
In 2005 she graduated in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture at University of Oporto (FAUP). In 2015 she obtained her Ph.D in Educational Sciences from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at University of Oporto (FPCEUP) with a thesis entitled “Dialogues and perspectives of young people about the school built environment, ethnography about the relationship between young people and learning spaces”. She also holds a Post-Graduate in Higher Education Art, Design, Architecture & Media (2017) from the Norwich University of the Arts (NUA), UK.
At a professional level, she combines experience as an architect, researcher and teacher. As an architect, she designed and collaborated on various housing projects of different scales from housing to public buildings and urban plans.
She is currently lecturing at Birmingham City University, UK, and previously she coordinated and delivered the ARCHIchild, an architectural toolkit, designed by a team of architecture students from Norwich University of the Arts (NUA), that has been developed through collaboration with the Norfolk Association of Architects (NAA) and funded by Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
With the designer Ruben Ferreira Duarte, Ana Rute Costa won the competition for the poster of the World Architecture Day 2018, awarded by the UIA (International Union of Architects). The jury stated that their poster conveys the “simplest, most powerful message. The world is our home, we make our homes in the world, and architecture is the means which we mediate our inhabitation.”
